A hoax by the Guardian on April Fool’s Day, 1977. The island has been repeatedly used on April 1st, even so far as being part of the 2009 crossword puzzle for that day.  The original article about Sans Serriffe was written as a serious look at it’s fictional economic upturn. Found in ‘Just My Type: A Book about Fonts’ by Simon Garfield. A very interesting read.
